Job summary

CareerNerds, LLC is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for heavy civil highway and utility projects across Virginia. This role is ideal for someone with DOT experience who wants a path to running their own projects.

Relocation to Fredericksburg area is available for the right candidate. You will work with a senior PM on roadway and utility work, coordinate submittals, RFIs, procurement, and cost tracking while ensuring project documentation stays clean and up to date.

Qualifications

• 3+ years on heavy civil, highway or utility projects as a Field Engineer, Project Engineer or APM.
• VDOT or other DOT project experience strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of scheduling and cost tracking.
• Heavy civil experience in Virginia is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Drive submittals, RFIs and procurement so field crews stay ahead of the work.
• Coordinate subcontractors and supplier purchase orders.
• Track quantities, production and cost against budget.
• Prepare monthly pay applications and cost projections.
• Support schedule updates and change management.
• Work with VDOT inspectors and owner representatives.
• Keep project documentation clean and current.
• Take part in weekly schedule and cost reviews with the project team.
• Support a strong jobsite safety culture.
