Job summary

Ascension St. Vincent Anderson Hospital in Anderson, IN is hiring a Laboratory Support Specialist (Phlebotomy) to set up instruments, maintain equipment, process specimens, and assist with patient registration and test ordering.

This PRN role requires adherence to safety, infection control, and accuracy in handling samples and records. Preferred credentials include CLS/AMT/ASCP-related phlebotomy certifications; high school diploma or equivalent; prior phlebotomy experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable experience.
• BLS Provider preferred.
• ASCP-BOC Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
• AMT Medical Laboratory Assistant credential preferred.
• ASCP-BOC Medical Laboratory Assistant credential preferred.
• Phlebotomy Tech credential preferred.
• Experience with phlebotomy

Responsibilities

• Sets up instruments, maintains, cleans and sterilizes equipment and work area per safety rules.
• Receives, centrifuges, accesses, processes and transports specimens; may draw blood.
• Orders add-on tests, manages pending lists and resolves duplicate orders.
• Performs clerical duties: phones, data entry, patient registration and ABN review.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Sets up instruments. Maintains, cleans, and sterilizes equipment and work area following safety, cleanliness, and infection control procedures.
• Receives, centrifuges, accessions, processes and transports specimens. Verifies all related records. May draw and collect blood samples according to policy.
• Orders add-on tests, works pending lists, and resolves duplicate orders.
• Performs clerical duties which may include answering phones, reviewing EKGs, collecting patient demographic data for patient registration, ordering tests, reviewing Advance Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage (ABN), data entry and filing.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Required Credential(s):
  • None Required.
• Preferred Credential(s):
  • BLS Provider. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Certification specializing in Phlebotomy credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).
  • Phlebotomy Tech.
  • Tech credentialed from the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians. All issuing authorities accepted.
• Additional Preferences:
  • Experience with phlebotomy

Education

High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. *Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
