Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Laboratory Specialist at Prospect Medical Commons in Milwaukee to collect and process blood specimens, set up instruments, and maintain a safe, sterile work area. The role includes clerical duties and specimen handling to support diagnostic testing.

Minimum qualifications include licensure/certification in phlebotomy with BLS, and education options allow substitution with professional credentials. This is a full-time day shift role with comprehensive healthcare benefits.

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration required or preferred: BLS Provider (American Heart Association/Red Cross), ASCP-BOC Phlebotomy credential, ASCP-BOC Medical Laboratory Assistant, AMT Medical Laboratory Assistant, ASCP Phlebotomy Technician credential.
  • High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of job-specific experience required; licensure/certification can substitute for education or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and process blood specimens for testing and perform clerical/processing tasks.
  • Set up instruments; maintain, clean, and sterilize equipment and workspace per safety and infection-control procedures.
  • Receive, centrifuge, accession, process, and transport specimens; verify related records; may draw blood per policy.

How you’ll make an impact in this role
  • Collect and process blood specimens for testing and performs multiple clerical and processing functions.
  • Set up instruments. Maintain, clean, and sterilize equipment and work area following safety,
    cleanliness, and infection control procedures.
  • Receive, centrifuge, accession, process, and transport specimens. Verify all related records. May draw and collect blood samples according to policy.
What minimum qualifications you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Preferred Credential(s):
    • BLS Provider. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
    • Certification specializing in Phlebotomy credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).
    • Phlebotomy Tech.
    • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).
    • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
    • Tech credentialed from the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians. All issuing authorities accepted.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
    • Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
