Advertising Summary: Assistant or Associate Professor — School of Social Work New Mexico State University. The NMSU School of Social Work, part of the College of Health, Education, and Social Transformation, invites applicants for Assistant or Associate Professor faculty position. We're seeking a scholar-educator who can teach across our undergraduate and graduate curriculum — in person, online synchronous, and online asynchronous — grounded in CSWE/EPAS competencies. The ideal candidate brings an active, fundable research agenda, a strong record of mentoring students, and a genuine commitment to equity-centered social work education.

Rank and tenure status will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and record of scholarship, teaching, and service.

NMSU is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with deep ties to Native American communities across the Southwest; candidates with experience in culturally responsive pedagogy, Indigenous social work practice, bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency, and academic leadership are especially encouraged to apply. Required: PhD in Social Work; MSW from a CSWE-accredited program; teaching experience across delivery formats; a research agenda complementing existing faculty strengths; and a demonstrated commitment to DEI.

Appointment Full-time Equivalency: 1.0

FLSA Status: Exempt

Bargaining Unit Announcement: This is NOT a bargaining unit position with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

Contingent Upon Funding: Contingent upon funding

Standard Work Schedule: Standard (M-F, 8-5)

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The faculty member must be able to provide undergraduate and graduate instruction across the School's curriculum, delivered in in-person, online synchronous, and online asynchronous formats, and grounded in CSWE/EPAS competencies. The successful candidate will maintain an active program of scholarship appropriate to rank, including peer-reviewed publication and, where applicable, external funding or grant-seeking activity. The faculty member will also mentor undergraduate/graduate students and contribute to advising. Additional responsibilities include service to the School, the University, the profession, and the broader community, along with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive pedagogy.

Rank and tenure status will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and record of scholarship, teaching, and service.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: Completed doctorate degree in social work area

Equivalent Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An established record of peer-reviewed scholarship and external research funding, with credentials appropriate to appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor
  • Experience teaching in a PhD-level social work curriculum
  • Active or license-eligible New Mexico social work licensure appropriate to the position's teaching focus
  • A minimum of three years of post-MSW social work practice experience
  • Experience with academic leadership, program coordination, or committee service
  • Experience mentoring students and junior faculty
  • Experience working with Hispanic-Serving Institutions or similarly diverse student populations
