Job description

Open Rank of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Position Summary

The UNMDepartment of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Master of Social Work (MSW) Program is seeking a self‑motivated individual to join our dynamic multi‑disciplinary team. The mission of the MSW Program is to build more just and equitable communities through improving the quality of behavioral health and social services for New Mexico and beyond; promoting best practices and the most current research; listening to and valuing the knowledge of individuals about themselves and their communities; and promoting service provision that is humble, anti‑oppressive, and informed.

The MSW Program is seeking a full‑time 12‑month faculty member to join their team for the Spring 2027 semester. This position is a unique opportunity to teach the inaugural class of the newest graduate program at UNM. Teaching will include in‑person and online (synchronous and asynchronous) graduate courses, including summers. The preferred candidate will have practice experience relevant to medical social work and interest in bringing this experience into the classroom.

The majority of the faculty’s workload will be teaching classes in the MSW program. The qualified candidate should have interest in developing new processes and materials, including writing lesson plans for courses that have never been taught. Additionally, faculty will have clinical time. The setting for this within UNM Health Sciences Center will be determined collaboratively based on the faculty member’s experience and Health Sciences Center needs.

This is a 12‑month, benefits eligible position.

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is a multi‑division department within the UNM School of Medicine. We provide excellent, innovative education to residents, medical students, and health professionals; the highest quality mental health care to the citizens of New Mexico; and pursue outstanding multidisciplinary research that helps solve important health problems.
