Position Summary
The Assistant Manager oversees Group Leaders and Administrative Coordinators within their respective areas while monitoring daily activities. The position is tasked with ensuring that all Safety and Quality standards are followed while production objectives are achieved. The position also requires the Assistant Manager to maintain Hoshin Kanri board and Availability Improvement Meetings. Additionally, the Assistant Manager works to develop day-to-day continuous improvement projects, which results in improved overall safety, quality control, team member development, cost savings, and productivity.
Position Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:
- Manage day-to-day aspects of manufacturing operations for assigned groups.
- Provide guidance to staff including advising Group Leaders on the more complex aspects of their assignments.
- Train Group Leaders in all aspects of the department Group Leader Expectations.
- Oversee the Administrative Assistant in all aspects of Admin Expectations.
- Identify training needs of specific groups and ensure that all Team Members have the required skills necessary to achieve production and quality standards.
- Identify and resolve problems and conflicts in assigned areas by working closely with their respective leadership and support groups (Mfg, QA, QE, Maint., Eng., HR, etc.).
- Ensure consistent enforcement of policies and procedures (i.e. Dress Code Policy, Safety Standards, Quality Standards, Standard Work).
- Work closely with HR regarding complex employee issues.
- Analyze data and monitor daily work processes to detect trends, then develop and implement actions as required.
- Coordinate and communicate major safety, quality, and production issues.
- Provide leadership and advice on actions to resolve issues.
- Work closely with Quality & Safety Leadership.
- Creation and management of a safe work environment conducting accident investigations and countermeasures.
- Maintain production standards and achieve target availability.
- Support and provide guidance for Group Leaders.
- Actively communicate department issues to Manufacturing and Manager.
- Ensure that all company standards and company policy are followed by Team Members.
- Maintain acceptable levels of Team Member Morale.
Required Skills and Abilities
Essential Skills and Experience:
- 5 years of experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment.
- Computer knowledge - MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Production and Processing Quality - knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, 3 Pillar, and other standards and techniques for maximizing quality and availability.
- Mechanical - general knowledge of machines and tools, measurement instruments, automation/robotics, maintenance and repair.
- Information Ordering - ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
- Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings - monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
- Awareness - ability to know and tell when something is wrong on the line or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing problems before they become problems.
- Coaching - motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the quality candidates for hire and promotion.
- Active Listening - giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
