Job summary

Halfords is seeking an Assistant Manager for our Ayr Autocentre to work closely with the Centre Manager, balancing workshop duties with sales and customer service, to drive profitability and customer satisfaction.

You will lead and coach technicians, ensure quality workmanship, and manage daily operations in a busy workshop environment with a strong focus on the customer journey.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction through effective management and leadership.
• Experience in coaching and developing colleagues on the job.
• Strong mechanical knowledge with Level 2 or 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance.
• Understanding of workshop operations, diagnostics, and vehicle maintenance.
• Own tools and ability to use them in a busy workshop.
• Compliance with Health & Safety standards.
• Excellent communication and IT skills.
• Strong organisational and time management.
• Full, valid driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the team to deliver high customer satisfaction.
• Split time between workshop with technicians and daily sales/customer service.
• Support Centre Manager to drive profitability and performance.
• Ensure Health & Safety standards are followed.

As an Assistant Manager, you'll work alongside the Centre Manager to provide productive management and leadership, driving profitability, with firm focus on the customers journey. You will have had previous hands-on experience as a mechanic or management experience in a similar environment as you will be dividing your time between the workshop, working alongside the technicians, and assisting the Centre Manager with daily sales and customer service.

• On-target earnings up to £41,000
• Comprising a base salary of £35,000
• An uncapped monthly bonus scheme with average additional earnings of £6,000 per year.

What we're looking for:

• Proven ability to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction through effective management and leadership
• Experience in coaching, training, and developing colleagues in the moment
• Strong technical/mechanical knowledge, ideally supported by a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent experience)
• Solid understanding of workshop operations, diagnostics, and vehicle maintenance processes
• Bring your own set of tools and put them to great use in a busy, well-equipped workshop
• Experience of maintaining compliance with Health & Safety standards
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• IT proficient, with the ability and willingness to learn in-house systems
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Full, valid driving licence
