Sterling Group is seeking an Assistant Maintenance Supervisor to support on-site maintenance operations at our Birmingham properties. You will work with the Maintenance Supervisor and Property Manager to diagnose problems, coordinate repairs, and oversee day-to-day tasks across apartments and common areas.

The role requires hands-on experience in building trades, strong communication, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience.
• Experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building trades preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Maintenance Supervisor in leading on-site staff to diagnose and repair problems.
• Ensure interior and exterior repairs to maintain apartments, common areas, buildings and grounds meet procedures.

As an Assistant Maintenance Supervisor you will:

• Assists Maintenance Supervisor in leading on-site maintenance staff in diagnosis of problems and repair in areas such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, pool, carpentry, dry walling, exterior structural, and appliance
• Ensure all interior and exterior repairs to maintain apartments, common areas, buildings and grounds are completed according to established procedures

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor and Property Manager

Qualifications:

• Technical School preferred, High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
• Apartment maintenance experience preferred
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in maintenance or equivalent field
• Excellent interpersonal relations, communicative skills and a customer-focused service orientation
• Working knowledge in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliance repair, and general building trades
• Own and use basic and tools, as well as utilize basic computer programs to perform tasks
• Proficient in reading, writing, grammar, and mathematical skills

Other Requirements (Background Check and Drug Screening):

Must be able to pass a drug test, driving record, criminal history, and background checks prior to employment with Sterling Management Ltd.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to read and comprehend moderately complex documents.
• Ability to verbally and in writing communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Occasionally operate a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a copy machine, printer, telephone or fax machine.
• Alternate between sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs.
• Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
• Occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• May be exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, chemical hazards, respiratory hazards, extreme cold for more than 1 hour at a time, extreme heat for more than 1 hour at a time.
