Position Information

TxDOT's Houston District is searching for an Assistant Maintenance Section Supervisor I or II to join the Southeast Harris Maintenance Section. As a Maintenance Section Assistant, you will coordinate equipment, materials, and personnel for roadway maintenance projects, work closely with the maintenance section supervisor while gaining valuable experience and additional skills in leadership and maintenance work. Job Responsibilities

Assistant Maintenance Section Supervisor I and II

Supervises a group of maintenance and clerical employees responsible for providing a safe driving thoroughfare within a designated geographical area. Reports to a Maintenance Section Supervisor at a maintenance section with a rank sum ratio in accordance with the published rank sum. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with the public. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
  • Experience:
    • 5 years of experience in roadway maintenance or construction related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
    • Must have 1 year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
    • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required
Assistant Maintenance Section Supervisor II
  • Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
  • Experience:
    • 6 years of experience in roadway maintenance or construction related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
    • Must have 1 year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
    • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical. Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

Please note that the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, at 40.151(e) – does not authorize “medical marijuana” under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position.

Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond during emergency situations.
