Job summary

MV Transportation is seeking an Assistant Maintenance Manager in Irvine, CA to help lead day-to-day maintenance operations and supervise a sizable team. You will ensure adherence to client standards, safety, and proper documentation, while coordinating with the Maintenance Manager on major repairs and parts availability.

The role requires hands-on experience with engines, electrical, and hydraulic systems, plus maintenance management software proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years journey-level mechanic experience with engines, electrical, hydraulic systems.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience overseeing 20+ mechanics.
  • Valid California Class A, B, or C license and medical certificate.
  • Associate degree or higher in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • ASE automotive/truck certifications, preferably ASE Master.
  • Prior experience in public transit vehicle maintenance.
  • CDL licensed and able to drive vehicles as required.
  • Strong supervisory skills and ability to oversee 30+ personnel.
  • Ability to track parts inventories, vendors and suppliers.
  • Proficient in work scheduling, project management, and fleet budgeting.
  • Effective written and oral communication; proficient in MS Office.

  • Assist in monitoring vehicle availability, maintenance productivity, work quality, and fleet reliability.
  • Help ensure work orders, inspection records, and maintenance documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Assist in supervising maintenance personnel, coordinating work assignments, and supporting training.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with safety, environmental regulations, and client procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager regarding vehicle availability, major repairs, warranty work, parts availability, and priorities.
  • Attend meetings, presentations, and other events as requested by client.
  • Be available during normal business hours and reachable for emergencies through client-approved methods.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the day-to-day supervision of maintenance operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Support the implementation of the CONTRACTOR's preventive maintenance and vehicle repair programs in accordance with client standards and the requirements of this Agreement.
  • Assist in monitoring vehicle availability, maintenance productivity, work quality, and fleet reliability.
  • Help ensure work orders, inspection records, and maintenance documentation are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with the requirements of this Agreement.
  • Assist in supervising maintenance personnel, coordinating work assignments, and supporting employee training and development.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations, environmental requirements, and client maintenance procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager regarding vehicle availability, major repairs, warranty work, parts availability, and operational priorities.
  • Attend meetings, presentations, and other events as requested by client.
  • Be available during normal business hours and remain reachable outside normal business hours for emergencies through client-approved communication methods.
Qualifications

Talent Requirements:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of journey-level mechanic experience with strong technical knowledge of gasoline engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and maintenance management software applications.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience overseeing a maintenance operation with twenty (20) or more mechanics and demonstrated managerial and training abilities.
  • A valid California Class A, B, or C driver's license, as appropriate, a valid medical certificate, and any other licenses or certifications required by applicable federal, state, and local regulations to operate vehicles assigned under this Agreement.
  • An associate degree or higher in a related field, or equivalent experience acceptable to client. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for the associate degree requirement.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) automotive and/or truck certifications, preferably ASE Master Certification.
  • Prior experience in public transit vehicle maintenance.
  • Must be CDL licensed.
  • Strong supervisory experience; must be able to supervise 30+ personnel.
  • Must have the ability to track and control parts inventories, vendors and suppliers.
  • Must be able to properly prioritize, implement and manage work schedules, projects and assignments.
  • Must have the ability to manage the financial/accounting aspects of a fleet maintenance operation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff in written and oral formats.
  • Must have computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Must have technical competence with light/medium/Heavy duty vehicle repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Must display initiative, professionalism, candor and tact at all times.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years fleet/vehicle maintenance supervision experience.

Starting salary range: $83,220-$112,591
