This position reports to the Master Locksmith Supervisor and the Maintenance Director. Requires English proficiency, basic locksmith knowledge, and a valid Texas driver's license; starting date is immediate.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, renovate, and install doors, door closers, panic hardware, key locks, and related hardware.
  • Rekey locks and adjust lock systems to maintain security.
  • Maintain key control systems and issue keys as authorized.
  • Cut new or duplicate keys using key cutting machines.
  • Operate and maintain locksmith tools and equipment safely.
  • Maintain accurate records related to keys, locks, and security systems.
  • Follow safety protocols and district procedures while performing duties.
  • Work with maintenance staff to support department operations.
  • Respond to service calls for lockouts, repairs, and security issues as assigned.

Assistant Locksmith


Reports to:

Primary Purpose:


To assist in providing district-wide locksmith services, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of locks, doors, and related hardware. Work is performed under the direction of the Master Locksmith and Maintenance leadership to ensure the safety and security of district facilities.


Education/Certification:


Eighth grade education or higher


Valid Texas Driver’s License


Special Knowledge/Skills:


Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, and communicate effectively using standard communication tools such as telephones and two-way radios. Demonstrates basic knowledge of locksmith tools, equipment, and procedures, including lock installation, repair, and key systems. Possesses basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair. Ability to safely operate locksmith tools and equipment, maintain accurate records, and follow instructions and work schedules. Exhibits strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively under the direction of the Master Locksmith and Maintenance leadership.


Experience:


One (1) year of satisfactory performance while working for PSJA ISD preferred


Two (2) years of experience with a reputable organization in a field related to the job responsibilities preferred.

Technical Skills, Responsibilities and Duties

Major Responsibilities and Duties:



  • Repair, renovate, and install doors, door closers, panic hardware, key locks, combination locks, and automatic door mechanisms and controls.

  • Rekey locks, change combinations, and modify or adjust lock systems to maintain or restore security.

  • Maintain key control systems, including key files and issuing keys as authorized by Maintenance administration.

  • Cut new or duplicate keys using key cutting machines.

  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble locks, including replacing worn components such as tumblers, springs, and related parts.

  • Open locked doors and safes using appropriate locksmith techniques, including lock picking or drilling when necessary.

  • Repair, service, and install door hardware, including hydraulic door closers, kick plates, door stops, and related components.

  • Maintain all locks, cabinets, door frames, and automated door systems in proper working condition across district facilities.

  • Respond to service calls for lockouts, repairs, and security-related issues as assigned.

  • Operate and maintain locksmith tools, equipment, and materials in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Maintain accurate records related to keys, locks, and security systems.

  • Follow all district safety protocols and procedures while performing assigned duties.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly store tools and equipment.

  • Communicate progress, issues, and material needs to the Master Locksmith or supervisor in a timely manner.

  • Work collaboratively with maintenance staff to support overall department operations.

  • Follow assigned schedules and complete tasks in accordance with district standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Master Locksmith, Maintenance Supervisor, or Director, including tasks required to support maintenance operations and respond to emergency or urgent situations.
