Job summary

Montville Township Public Library in New Jersey seeks an innovative, community-minded leader for the Assistant Library Director role. This senior manager oversees daily operations, staff supervision, and acts in the Director's absence.

You will collaborate with the Board, township officials, and partners to guide governance and strategic planning. The position focuses on public services, programming, marketing, and fundraising, with responsibilities in grant writing, events, and outreach.

Qualifications

• MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution and the ability to obtain NJ Professional Librarian Certification.
• Minimum of four years of post-MLS/MLIS professional experience, including demonstrated management or administrative experience.
• Exempt, 40-hour-per-week position with weekday, evening, and weekend hours.
• Montville Township Public Library is a Civil Service employer.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations and supervise staff; assume responsibility in the Director’s absence.
• Collaborate with Board of Trustees and Township officials on governance and policy.
• Lead marketing, public relations, communications, and community engagement initiatives.
• Plan and manage public programs, outreach, and collection development budgets.
• Support grant writing and fundraising efforts to advance Library services.
