Job summary

The Highland Park Public Library in New Jersey seeks an enthusiastic Assistant Library Director to oversee six Circulation employees in a union environment. Under the Library Director, the role covers management, customer service, and the flow of service and materials, representing the library professionally with trustees and community partners.

The position is salaried and exempt, with generally 35 hours per week, one weekend/evening shift, and additional hours as needed.

Qualifications

• MLS from an ALA-accredited library school is required.
• Public library experience with circulation and reference services is required.
• At least 1 year in a managerial capacity is required.
• Ability to work with a diverse community and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Circulation and Technical Services operations.
• Supervise and schedule Circulation staff; conduct annual evaluations.
• Represent the library in meetings with the Director, trustees, and community.
• Prepare annual Circulation budget and assist with overall library budget.
• Coordinate with STELLA consortium for materials flow.
