Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking an Assistant Kitchen Supervisor for its Adult Rehabilitation Center in Detroit. You will oversee beneficiaries in the kitchen, manage inventory, menus, ordering, and canteen operations to support the rehabilitation program.

Salary is paid hourly at $18–$23 per hour, with training and advancement opportunities and a supportive team atmosphere. This full-time, on-site position emphasizes safety, compliance, and efficient kitchen operations.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising and training staff, not working alongside.
• Strong computer skills for inventory and communications.
• Excellent organizational and mathematical abilities for measurements and portions.

Responsibilities

• Train beneficiaries on Kitchen Safety and Compliance protocols.
• Supervise daily work therapy performance, including cooking and cleaning.
• Provide regular feedback and direction to beneficiaries.
• Ensure compliance with Health Department policies.
• Create and update menus using Cycle Menu Management System.
• Maximize use of donated goods.
• Maintain kitchen and canteen inventories.
• Generate timely orders based on stock, cost, and needs.
• Source and coordinate food donations.
• Monitor canteen sales and card tracking.
• Prepare for regular inspections.
• Coordinate with Kitchen Supervisor on all operations.
