Job summary

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Detroit is seeking an Assistant Kitchen Supervisor to oversee beneficiaries in the kitchen while managing inventory, menus, ordering, and canteen operations.

This position supports the rehabilitation program and requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and commitment to safe food handling and quality service.

Pay rate is $18–$23/hour with training and advancement opportunities available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• ServSafe and Allergen training certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee beneficiaries in the kitchen and supervise daily activities.
• Manage inventory, menus, and ordering for the canteen.
• Coordinate with Kitchen Supervisor on all operations.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety policies.
• Provide regular feedback and direction to beneficiaries.

Job description

• Train beneficiaries on Kitchen Safety and Compliance protocols
• Supervise daily work therapy performance, including cooking and cleaning
• Provide regular feedback and direction to beneficiaries
• Ensure compliance with Health Department policies

Menu & Inventory Management

• Create and update menus using Cycle Menu Management System
• Maximize use of donated goods
• Maintain kitchen and canteen inventories
• Generate timely orders based on stock, cost, and needs
• Source and coordinate food donations

Operations Management

• Monitor canteen sales and card tracking
• Prepare for regular inspections
• Coordinate with Kitchen Supervisor on all operations

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• ServSafe and Allergen training certifications required

Skills & Abilities

• Supervisory skills (oversee and train, not work alongside)
• Computer proficiency for inventory and communications
• Strong mathematical abilities for measurements and portions
• Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
