This position assists in managing highway and bridge maintenance activities within Crawford County and supports the planning, oversight, and review of daily operations. Within this role, your work will focus on supervising crews, organizing project plans, and ensuring that maintenance work meets department expectations. As an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager, you will perform the following duties:

  • Crew Leadership:Supervise general and specialized maintenance crews in daily highway and bridge activities
  • Project Planning:Develop drafts of long range, annual, monthly, and weekly maintenance work plans
  • Work Inspection:Inspect maintenance work in progress and upon completion to ensure alignment with department standards
  • Safety Management:Promote safe work environments by ensuring proper work zone traffic control and accident prevention practices
  • Complaint Review:Investigate highway-related complaints and monitor road conditions to support maintenance priorities
  • Resource Oversight:Manage materials, equipment requisitions, purchase orders, and related documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS).
  • Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects;or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
  • This position requirespossession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
