Job description

Position Title:

Assistant, Hardware & Trim

Reporting to Title:

Sr. Manager, Hardware & Trim RTW

Summary:

As Assistant, Hardware & Trim, you will provide critical operational support to our trim development and inventory systems. You will work cross-functionally with Design, Product Development, Production, and Atelier teams to keep trim development on schedule, maintain accurate records, and ensure our trim library serves as an efficient, organized resource for all teams. This role demands an exceptionally organized, detail-oriented individual with strong systems thinking and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, design-driven environment. You will bring proactive problem-solving, technical proficiency, and a deep understanding of materials and their application as design elements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Manage the complete trim development and sampling workflow from initial conception through pre-production. Issue trim purchase orders for sampling and finished-goods production, track shipments meticulously, follow up on delivery updates, and maintain real-time visibility into development status and timelines.
  • Coordinate trim sourcing and vendor management across all channels—local Midtown procurement for zippers, buttons, and metal trims; overseas suppliers for specialty components. Send color standards and technical references to suppliers, follow up for completed technical data sheets (TDS), confirm pricing guarantees, and maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Maintain precise, comprehensive records of all trim developments from initial adoption through pre-production approval. Create and maintain trim codes in RLM, enter and track all trim information in development charts, trim binders, and project management platforms. Serve as the system of record for seasonal and carryover trim inventory.
  • Organize and manage the physical and digital trim library as a strategic resource for all teams. Sort trims systematically by material content, mill/supplier, and price point. Implement and maintain organized inventory systems that make it easy for Design and PD teams to access, review, and select trims efficiently.
  • Coordinate trim testing and approval workflows with Design, Production, and Atelier teams. Launch garment mockup trials, send samples to factories for functionality testing, organize materials presentations, and ensure all proto/trial and approval samples are ready for review meetings.
  • Support production transitions by gathering seasonal trims and passing them to Production teams toward season end. Confirm all trim information is current, complete, and production-ready. Process invoices, manage outstanding payments, and arrange shipping of materials as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement of trim systems and processes. Implement check-in systems for receiving seasonal trims, maintain parallel inventory systems for accurate tracking, and proactively identify opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance cross-functional efficiency.

In compliance with the New York City salary transparency requirements, the potential salary for this position is from $67,000 to $70,000, which represents a range commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills required.

  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven proficiency in PLM systems (RLM preferred) or similar database and inventory management platforms.
  • Strong understanding of materials, hardware, and trim applications across apparel, accessories, and footwear.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency; CAD or design software knowledge a plus.
  • Demonstrated systems-thinking mindset with ability to build and improve organizational processes from scratch.
  • Familiarity with data management platforms and emerging inventory/supply chain tracking technologies— with comfort adopting new tools and systems.
