Job summary

California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) invites applications for the Assistant Grounds Manager. Based in Southern California, this role supports the Grounds Manager in overseeing daily operations, supervising crews, and implementing sustainable landscape practices across the CSULB campus.

The position requires a turfgrass degree, significant management experience, a valid CA driver’s license, and a commitment to safety and fiscal responsibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in turfgrass science and management or a related field.
• Minimum five years of management experience in grounds maintenance.
• Certifications in pest control and arborist preferred.
• Valid California driver’s license; ability to operate university vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Lead Grounds workers and crews; coordinate schedules and labor productivity.
• Review landscape construction drawings and ensure sustainable maintenance standards.
• Support enforcement of policies and staff evaluations.
• Oversee grounds department equipment and vehicle inspections.
• Coordinate irrigation systems and GIS assets for campus.
