Job summary

TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, MD, seeks an Assistant Golf Professional I to assist with the daily management of the golf shop and golf operations. The role supports PGA TOUR events, member services, and staff supervision.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in sports/business, a PGA apprentice or current PGA Member, and 3–5 years of golf operations experience. Salary ranges from $45,000 to $50,000 with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Sports Administration, Business Management, Marketing or related field.
• Three to five years of professional golf operations experience in progressively responsible positions.
• Prior supervisory experience is required.
• Working knowledge of golf course operations and practices is necessary.
• Registered PGA apprentice or current PGA Member in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Assist in management of employees, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training golf shop staff and making staffing recommendations.
• Assist PGA TOUR players, members and guests with their golfing needs to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
• Assume management responsibility in the Golf Shop during peak periods to maintain service standards.
• Assist with annual and semi-annual employee performance reviews and development plans.
• Assist with labor management and cost controls by scheduling Golf Shop and Outside Golf Staff.
• Oversee outside golf operations, coordinating golf-related activities and maintenance of facilities and fixtures.
• Promote golf by teaching and conducting player development programs and staffing club tournament events.
• Maintain playing standards for Golf Professionals in the TPC Network.
• Assist with Golf World Business Top 100 submissions and related preparations.
• Establish and administer the club tournament program and promotional materials.
• Ensure locker room service levels and stock are maintained where applicable.
• Assist with golf operations budget development and management of expenses.
• Maintain uniforms and appearance standards for staff and manage inventories.
• Support merchandise reporting, purchasing, and inventory processes as needed.
• Answer phones for reservations and schedule tee times; manage pace of play.
• Perform duties of Assistant Golf Professional II as needed and complete special projects.
