Job summary

Joel Barlow High School in Redding, CT is seeking an Assistant Girls Swim Coach to join our athletic program. You will support the head coach in preparing practices and meets, while helping student-athletes grow in skill and confidence.

The ideal candidate has coaching or competitive swimming experience, strong communication, and a dedication to academics and sportsmanship. This on-site role requires flexibility for evenings and weekends during the season.

Qualifications

• Previous coaching or competitive swimming experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of swimming techniques and training methods.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain before season).
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
• Familiarity with high school swimming rules.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in planning, organizing, and conducting daily swim practices and meets.
• Provide instruction and guidance to athletes in various swimming techniques, skills, and strategies.
• Help create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and motivating team culture.
• Monitor and evaluate the performance and progress of individual swimmers and the team as a whole.
• Collaborate with the head coach to develop training plans tailored to the needs of each athlete.
• Attend and assist in the management of swim meets, including warm-ups, event organization, and athlete support.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team activities, schedules, and expectations.
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among athletes both in and out of the pool.
• Assist in the recruitment and retention of team members.
• Uphold and enforce all school and athletic department policies and regulations.

Requirements

• Previous experience in competitive swimming, coaching, or related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge of swimming techniques, training methodologies, and competitive strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.

• Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain prior to the start of the season).
