Job description

Assistant General Manager – GM Development Track Element by Westin | Short Pump, VA Full-Time Leadership Opportunity | Brand-New Hotel Opening Help Build It. Lead It. Make It Yours.

A brand-new hotel does not come with an established culture.

It gets built by the people who open the doors.

The new Element by Marriott Richmond Short Pump is looking for an experienced, driven, and highly engaged Assistant General Manager to join our opening leadership team and help shape the hotel from the ground up.

This is not a role for someone looking to simply maintain an existing operation.

This is an opportunity for a hotel leader who wants to build standards, develop a team, create a culture, solve problems, influence performance, and make a visible impact from day one.

If you have proven hotel leadership experience and are ready for the next major step in your hospitality career, we want to meet you.

About the Opportunity

As the Assistant General Manager, you will work closely with the General Manager and company leadership to help successfully open, stabilize, and grow a brand-new Element by Marriott hotel in the Short Pump market.

You will be involved across the entire operation, including:

  • Front Office
  • Housekeeping
  • Food & Beverage
  • Engineering
  • Guest Experience
  • Sales
  • Revenue Management
  • Labor Management
  • Financial Performance
  • Brand Standards
  • Team Development

You will be expected to know what is happening throughout the hotel, support your department leaders, step into the operation when needed, and help ensure that our guests and associates experience hospitality at its best.

This position is ideal for a leader who thrives on ownership, accountability, and being actively involved in the success of the property.

Lead the Hotel Operation
  • Assist the General Manager with the overall daily operation and performance of the hotel
  • Help establish operational procedures, standards, and expectations during the hotel opening
  • Provide hands‑on leadership across all departments
  • Serve as the senior hotel leader when the General Manager is unavailable
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the property
  • Support departments during high‑volume periods and operational challenges
  • Identify problems quickly and take ownership of solutions
  • Ensure departments work together efficiently and consistently

  • Help recruit, onboard, train, and develop hotel associates

  • Help establish a positive, professional, and results‑driven workplace culture
  • Create clear expectations for performance and guest service
  • Develop team members and future leaders
  • Promote open communication and teamwork across all departments
  • Lead by example every day

We want a leader who understands that strong results begin with an engaged and supported team.

  • Maintain a strong and visible presence with guests
  • Respond to guest concerns quickly and professionally
  • Support service recovery when needed
  • Monitor guest feedback, surveys, online reviews, and satisfaction scores
  • Identify trends and implement action plans for improvement
  • Ensure all departments consistently deliver the service standards expected by Element by Marriott

  • Housekeeping productivity
  • Food & Beverage performance
  • Hotel profitability

  • Forecasting
  • Labor planning
  • Expense control
  • Purchasing
  • Inventory
  • Financial reviews
  • Operational reporting
  • Revenue strategy
  • Department performance

  • Review occupancy, rate strategy, group activity, and upcoming business
  • Support strategies designed to increase occupancy, ADR, and total hotel revenue
