SUMMARY: The Hotel Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hotel as delegated by or in the absence of the General Manager. This includes the brands: Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, and historic hotels. This is a key management role and should be considered as a growth position that may lead to a General Manager position. The AGM can demonstrate a track record of strong operational and administrative experience and skills along with high-touch customer contact and employee/associate relations experience. The AGM will participate in achieving planned goals for operational integrity as measured by revenue, ADR, RevPar index, and GOP, while maintaining company standards for guest satisfaction, associate satisfaction, quality assurance, and asset value and protection. The AGM possesses a full understanding of front office, housekeeping, and accounting, including AR and night audit. The AGM will often be called upon to mentor, coach, and teach associates brand standards for high caliber hotel guest satisfaction. The Assistant General Manager will be able to address and handle all aspects of Human Resource management, including, but not limited to: training, development, counseling, hiring, and payroll processing in an atmosphere of teamwork and support. The AGM demonstrates and promotes a 100% commitment to providing the best possible experience for our guests and employees/associates.

Scope Of The Role
  • The expectations of this position require a 50 hour work week which includes weekends/evenings (Saturday and/or Sunday). Hours beyond 50 per week must be approved in advance by your supervisor.
  • Responsible for the full day-to-day operations of the hotel as designated by the General Manager
  • A very visible role by which the AGM is a trusted advisor, coach, mentor, to the hotel’s Associates and an ambassador to all guests
  • Assures that all brand standards for guest satisfaction are met and/or exceeded. In particular, the AGM must be an exceptionally good listener and problem solver.
  • Responsible for assisting the General Manager to achieve budget revenue and GOP goals. The AGM brings clear focus to cost management and cost savings opportunities across all departments
  • Collaborates with the General Manager on short, medium, and long-term goal achievement
  • Works directly with Corporate Sales to maximize occupancy by targeted group and transient opportunities and collaborates with Corporate Revenue Management to maximize ADR & RevPar
  • Has a professional and productive working relationship with Corporate Central Services including IT, Accounting, Development, Administration, and senior executives
  • Understands franchise policies and procedures
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive criticism
  • Participates in all phases of Associate selection, training, and motivation
  • Understands property management systems, how to use and troubleshoot
  • Purchasing, especially in electronic format
  • Flexible schedule including on-call and weekends/holidays
  • Ensures complete guest satisfaction and investigates guest complaints
  • Manages Guest service relations, Training, and Guest Response process
  • Participates in the budgeting process and achieves financial goals
  • Collaborates with Revenue Management for rate setting and maximization
  • Makes individual and Sales team calls on existing and prospective clients; remains current on business trends and local/regional activities
  • Oversees general operations when the GM is not on site
  • Ensures smooth operation of Manager on Duty (MOD) Program
  • Has specific duties overseeing the Front Desk, Maintenance, and Housekeeping
  • Participates and audits the hotel Safety Committee and hotel security for guests, Associates, and property assets
  • Ensures franchise quality standards and service are maintained for Property, People, and Product
  • Supports all Corporate Directives and Compliance including Payroll, Personnel, and Insurance issues
  • Timely reporting of all business activities including daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports
  • Oversees all inventories
  • Direct responsibility for hiring and training of Associates as assigned by General Manager
  • Has overall responsibility for all accounting and computer procedures at Front Desk
  • And all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by General Manager
  • Duties are subject to change and additional responsibilities/tasks may be assigned as needed
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous hotel management experience; preferred Hyatt, Marriott, and Hilton
  • Track record of effective leadership and coaching skills
  • Strong work ethic; must lead by example
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possesses excellent guest service and Associate management skills
  • Ability to prepare, audit, and understand hotel financial reports, purchase orders, inventory tracking control
  • College degree or equivalent in Hospitality Management preferred
  • Highly organized and efficient; requires minimal oversight
  • F&B experience a plus
  • Strong interest in further career development
