Job summary

CardsHQ is expanding in Detroit and seeks an experienced Assistant General Manager (AGM) to partner with the General Manager to drive store performance, operational excellence, customer experience, and people leadership. The AGM will also connect the Detroit team with the People Team to recruit, onboard, develop, and retain an outstanding staff as we grow.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of progressive retail or comparable leadership experience.
• Experience as AGM, Store Manager, Operations Manager, or similar leadership role preferred.
• Experience leading from the floor, developing employees, and balancing customer, employees, and business needs.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the General Manager to lead day-to-day store operations and achieve sales, profitability, customer experience, and operational goals.
• Serve as the senior store leader when the General Manager is unavailable.
• Help recruit, interview, onboard, train, and develop the Detroit team.
• Support scheduling, timekeeping, attendance, training, employee communications, and consistent application of company policies.
• Coach employees and emerging leaders, provide regular feedback, and reinforce accountability and performance expectations.
• Help build a strong store culture centered on teamwork, trust, professionalism, and the CardsHQ experience.
• Monitor store KPIs and turn performance data into actionable priorities for the team.
• Support inventory management, merchandising, receiving, shrink controls, product launches, and major events.
• Resolve escalated customer concerns and ensure every guest receives a welcoming, knowledgeable, and professional experience.
• Partner with the General Manager and People Team on employee relations, development, recognition, safety, and compliance matters.
• Help establish the processes and operating standards that will allow CardsHQ Detroit to scale successfully.

CardsHQ is expanding, and we're looking for an experienced, hands-on Assistant General Manager (AGM) to help build and lead our new Detroit location.

This isn't a traditional AGM role. We're looking for a leader who can partner closely with the General Manager to drive store performance, operational excellence, customer experience, and people leadership. The AGM will also serve as an important connection between the Detroit team and our People Team, helping us recruit, onboard, develop, and retain an outstanding team as we grow.

What we Want from You

• We're looking for someone with 3+ years of progressive retail, hospitality, entertainment, specialty retail, or comparable leadership experience.
• Previous experience as an Assistant General Manager, Store Manager, Operations Manager, Department Manager, or similar people‑leadership role is strongly preferred.
• Previous experience leading from the floor, developing employees, solving problems, working in a fast‑paced environment, and balancing the needs of customers, employees, and the business.
• Experience with sports cards, TCG, collectibles, gaming, or hobby retail is a plus—but not required. We're equally interested in outstanding retail leaders who are excited to learn the hobby.
