About the Role
Location: Soho Men's store. Status: Full‑Time. Compensation: $70,000-$85,000/yr.
The Assistant General Manager is the right hand to the General Manager. They aim to maintain operational efficiencies and improve the overall customer experience. The AGM maintains a working knowledge of all aspects of the store, to be able to provide guidance or support as the business requires. Working alongside the GM and other members of the management team, the AGM will support in establishing a welcoming, motivating and efficient store culture. The assistant will work cross‑departmentally to provide the best training and development for the staff. Through direct guidance and collaboration with the GM, the AGM will take ownership of assigned areas of the business to leverage expertise and business acumen. The AGM will be the point of contact for the hiring needs of the store, while working collaboratively with the GM and HQ business partners. The assistant will be the subject‑matter expert on assigned areas of the business, while having the knowledge and ability to speak to the overall business in the absence of the General Manager.
Responsibilities
- Owns systemic processes as assigned by the GM or as the business’s needs require.
- Oversees the hiring needs of the store, working collaboratively with the GM, management team, and HQ business partners.
- Facilitates training and development for all levels of the store, as assigned by the GM.
- Helps create and execute development plans in partnership with the GM and HQ business partners.
- Manages direct communication with HQ business partners regarding assigned areas of responsibilities.
- Acts as a liaison between the store and HQ, in the absence of the GM.
- Works collaboratively with all members of the management team to ensure all brand and company standards are consistently met.
- Maintains a working knowledge of all aspects of the business to provide guidance or direct support.
- Assists the management team to achieve performance goals and execute standard operating procedures.
- Supports the store’s management team to ensure work tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Executes initiatives designed to improve the customer experience and drive customer satisfaction.
- Oversees and completes opening and closing procedures, as required by the business.
- Guides work activities during the day, as well as before and after normal store operating hours.
- Helps complete store administrative responsibilities including scheduling, in‑store HR tasks, and payroll.
- Oversees store maintenance and facilities in the absence of the GM.
- Ensures store equipment is in good standing and manages vendor communication for necessary work, while providing timely and effective communication to the GM and HQ business partners.
- Assists with housekeeping responsibilities such as dusting, sweeping, collection of trash, and other standard retail tasks.
Special Projects / Tasks
- Assist with inventory counts as business needs require.
- Assist Merchandising team during visual initiatives as required by the business.
- Lead any store visits in the absence of the GM.
- Assist with delivering product knowledge or brand education to the store team.
Requirements
- Availability: Open and flexible availability, including evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays; consistent weekend work, special projects and drops/releases as required.
- Experience: 4‑5 years of management experience in a customer‑facing role; 4+ years of retail/apparel operations experience; 4+ years leading a team of managers and/or supervisors; experience in a commission‑based environment is a plus.
- Skills / Abilities: Thorough communication and comfortable delegating tasks; ability to efficiently multitask and manage multiple projects; comprehensive computer skills (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, POS systems); ability to perform basic business math and accounting; ability to lift and move 25 lbs; ability to perform standard retail tasks (bending, twisting, climbing ladders/step stools); ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
