Steptoe LLP is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to serve as a strategic legal advisor to the General Counsel and firm leadership. You will identify, evaluate, and manage legal, ethical, regulatory, and firm risk while delivering practical, business-focused counsel.

You will collaborate with partners, business services, and information security to address conflicts, confidentiality, privilege, and compliance, and you will help shape policies and training to protect the firm and support client

Competenze

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and DC licensure in good standing.
• Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible legal experience (preferably including law firm or in-house risk/ethics work).
• Strong knowledge of legal ethics and professional responsibility principles.
• Experience independently managing sensitive matters and advising senior stakeholders.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and oral/written communication skills.

Mansioni

• Advise GC and leadership on legal, ethics, regulatory, and risk matters affecting the Firm.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and operational agreements including vendor and technology contracts.
• Manage claims, subpoenas, investigations, and other legal processes; coordinate with insurers and outside counsel.
• Support internal investigations and risk assessments, proposing corrective actions.
• Collaborate with People Operations on employment-related matters and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
• Coordinate with Information Security and privacy stakeholders on data protection and governance issues.
• Monitor professional responsibility developments and update policies and training accordingly.
• Develop and deliver training on ethics, risk management, and compliance.
