Jobbeschreibung

A confidential employer is seeking an accomplished General Counsel to serve as its principal legal advisor and a trusted partner to executive leadership. This role will provide practical, business-focused counsel across a broad range of corporate and operational matters while helping the organization manage risk, strengthen legal processes, and support responsible growth.

The successful candidate will combine strong legal judgment with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach. This position is well suited for an experienced attorney who can move comfortably between strategic guidance and hands‑on execution in a fast‑paced, multi‑state organization.

What You Will Do
  • Advise executive leadership on significant legal, regulatory, contractual, governance, compliance, and enterprise‑risk matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including customer and vendor contracts, master service agreements, purchase orders, confidentiality agreements, technology agreements, leases, indemnities, warranties, and limitation‑of‑liability provisions.
  • Direct litigation and disputed matters from initial assessment through resolution, including strategy, discovery, budgeting, settlement analysis, and oversight of outside counsel.
  • Counsel leaders on employment matters involving hiring, discipline, termination, wage and hour requirements, leave and accommodations, workplace investigations, restrictive covenants, policies, and employment‑related claims.
  • Provide legal guidance on workplace safety, regulatory inspections, citations, investigations, recordkeeping, corrective actions, and related enforcement matters.
  • Advise on environmental compliance, permitting, reporting, remediation, waste‑management requirements, environmental incidents, and agency inquiries.
  • Lead or support real estate matters, including acquisitions, sales, leases, easements, rights‑of‑way, title and survey review, due diligence, zoning, and property disputes.
  • Oversee commercial, property, casualty, vehicle, general‑liability, and third‑party claims, including investigations, evidence preservation, reserve strategy, and resolution.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions through due diligence, documentation, closing, integration, and post‑closing work.
  • Partner with leadership and insurance professionals on coverage, renewals, claims strategy, contractual risk transfer, certificates of insurance, indemnification, and risk mitigation.
  • Develop and improve contract templates, approval processes, document‑retention practices, legal matter management, and other scalable legal procedures.
  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and communicate required actions and emerging risks to business stakeholders.
  • Manage outside counsel and legal service providers, including scope, performance, budgets, billing, and efficient allocation of legal resources.
  • Support corporate governance, entity management, internal investigations, privileged reviews, policy development, and legal training.
What We Are Looking For
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; ability to satisfy any applicable requirements for the position's primary work location.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible legal experience advising businesses on commercial and operational matters; in‑house corporate experience is strongly preferred.
  • Substantial experience with commercial contracts, litigation and claims management, employment law, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk.
  • Experience with workplace safety, environmental matters, real estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, insurance coverage, or contractual risk transfer is preferred.
  • Experience supporting a multi‑state organization or another complex, regulated business environment is preferred.
Capabilities for Success
  • Exceptional contract drafting, negotiation, legal research, issue‑spotting, and analytical skills.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, integrity, and the ability to protect highly confidential information.
  • Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical business recommendations.
  • Demonstrated success managing litigation, claims, outside counsel, legal budgets, and competing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, negotiation, and relationship‑management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across functions and levels of leadership.
  • Comfort using standard business technology and legal research, contract, document, and matter‑management tools.
Work Environment and Travel

The role is primarily office‑based and requires extended periods of reading, writing, document review, meetings, and technology use. The General Counsel must be able to manage multiple high‑priority matters and deadlines, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and travel occasionally—including overnight travel—as business needs require.

Occasional visits to operational or outdoor locations may be necessary, with compliance with all applicable site‑safety requirements.

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to shape legal strategy, influence executive decision‑making, and build practical legal processes across a growing organization. The General Counsel will have broad exposure to the business and the ability to make a meaningful impact on risk management, compliance, transactions, and long‑term growth.
