Job summary

Cooley LLP seeks an Assistant General Counsel to lead data regulation, privacy, security, and governance. The role covers policy development, vendor/data processing agreements, and regulatory readiness across GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and export controls.

It requires deep privacy knowledge and cross‑functional collaboration with the Office of the General Counsel. The position supports a hybrid schedule, with in‑office and remote work, reporting to the General Counsel office.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience advising on data protection, privacy, and governance.
• Experience with U.S. export controls and data privacy laws in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
• Advanced knowledge of privacy and data governance frameworks; drafting privacy policies.

Responsibilities

• Advise on data regulation and governance, privacy, data security, and data processing.
• Draft and negotiate data-related terms in client and vendor contracts.
• Prepare and update data governance policies, including GDPR/CCPA/CPRA compliance.
• Lead incident preparedness and response for privacy and data security events.
• Collaborate with Security, Technology, and other GCs for risk management.
