ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL - LITIGATION
Los Angeles, California (100% on-site)
Pay Range: $169,936.00 - USD $305,760.00
Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Assistant General Counsel serves within the Office of the General Counsel of Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and provides legal support to CHLA, in order to advance its mission with an overall objective of minimizing organizational liability. The Office of the General Counsel of Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is seeking a sharp, self-motivated attorney with at least 10+ years of litigation experience to manage pre-litigation and litigation matters (demand letters, charges, and civil lawsuits) across all legal areas - employment, regulatory, workers' compensation, and general civil litigation. While a significant part of the role involves supervising outside counsel (determining case strategy, managing costs, and working with internal stakeholders to remediate vulnerabilities), the role also requires independently handling various pre-litigation/litigation activities, including but not limited to drafting certain demand letters, managing subpoenas, and directing certain privileged investigations. Additionally, this position provides advice and counsel to stakeholders to minimize organizational legal risk and ensure compliance with laws. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to take quick, thoughtful action in a fast-paced environment is required. This role reports directly to the General Counsel.
Ideal candidates will possess or demonstrate the following:
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 10+ years of litigation experience including employment litigation working at a law firm, the government, and/or in-house setting, or in healthcare setting. Healthcare or government experience is strongly preferred.
Education/Licensure/Certification: Juris Doctorate degree. Excellent academic credentials.
