Job summary

Cottonwood Group, a private equity real estate investment firm with offices in Los Angeles, seeks an Assistant Fund Controller to support financial operations, reporting, and compliance for investments. You will work with fund administrators, auditors and tax advisors to ensure accurate investor reporting and robust controls.

The role requires at least five years in fund accounting and investment management, including NAV and real estate fund experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (CPA preferred).
• 7+ years of accounting experience, 5+ years in fund accounting, ideally mix of public and in-house investment management.
• Experience with both open-ended (NAV) and closed-end fund accounting; real estate exposure preferred.
• US GAAP knowledge including fair value, consolidation, and investment company accounting (ASC 946).
• Experience with Yardi preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting and month-end close including reconciliations and reporting schedules.
• Perform bank reconciliations and journal entries.
• Approve accounts payable through Yardi workflow.
• Maintain fund and investor-level performance calculations (IRR, equity multiple, TWIST).
• Prepare management fee calculations and incentive accruals.
• Prepare capital call and distribution calculations and notices.
• Support year-end audit, tax, and compliance workstreams with external partners.
• Maintain schedule of investments and quarterly consolidations/eliminations.
• Interface with external fund administrator on quarterly statements and investor reports.
• Respond to investor inquiries coordinating with Capital Markets and Portfolio Management teams.
