Assistant Football Coach (Defensive Coordinator)

Start Date: August 2025

Location: Steilacoom High School

Salary: $4,500 - $5,625

Athletic coaches are an integral part of supporting the district’s 9th - 12th grade students. High school students are in a developmental period where they discover their identities, strengths, and future aspirations. They seek belonging and peer acceptance, often facing increased pressures. Competitive sports provide opportunities to develop confidence, leadership, goal setting, and time management skills, which support student engagement and academic success. Assistant coaches support the head coach in developing a positive program that ensures students have a safe, enriching experience that prepares them for postsecondary success. Our coaches are vital in enhancing student success for all students.

Are you interested in making a difference? We are seeking an Assistant Football Coach with the following minimum qualifications:

• Successful experience or demonstrated commitment toward working with culturally and racially diverse students, families, and communities.
• High school graduate or GED completion.
• 19 years of age or older.
• Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport and the requirements of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).
• Ability to obtain first aid certification, CPR, and AED training as required.
• Experience or knowledge of effective coaching practices for the sport.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and data.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate via various communication methods.
• Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
• Ability to relate to students of differing athletic abilities.
• Maintain poise and composure during practices and games.
• Punctuality and reliable attendance.
• Background check and fingerprinting required.
