Job Summary:Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Controller to support the Financial Controller in overseeing all financial activities of the organization. The Assistant Financial Controller will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate multi-entity financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations, andproviding insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making. Responsibilities:- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (e.g., balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) in accordance with GAAP.
- General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Account Reconciliations: Perform regular reconciliations of key accounts, including bank accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Support the Financial Controller in the development, monitoring, and analysis of the annual budget and periodic forecasts. Assist in identifying variances and providing explanations.
- Internal Controls: Assist in the implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
- Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to inquiries.
- Tax Compliance: Support the preparation and filing of various tax returns and ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable Oversight: May oversee or assist with the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions to ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions.
- Inventory Accounting: Assist in the management of inventory accounting, including cost accounting, valuation, and cycle counts.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis, prepare reports, and provide insights on financial performance to management.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes and enhance efficiency.
- Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in various financial projects and initiatives as assigned by the Financial Controller.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other departments within the organization.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Ten (10) years of progressive accounting experience, with exposure to general ledger, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced skills preferred, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis).
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Business Central D365) is highly desirable.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:- Master’s Degree, CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or progress towards certification is advantageous.
