Job summary

The State of New York - Health, Department of invites applications for the Assistant Engineer (Environmental) role in Albany. The NY HELPS program supports enforcing the Safe Drinking Water Act and State Sanitary Code through engineering expertise and field inspections.

Preferred candidates bring knowledge of industrial control systems, regulatory familiarity, and the ability to manage multiple projects while communicating with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology, or FE with one year related experience.
• For assistant engineer, FE + qualifying degree or FE + one year experience.
• Qualifying degrees include Civil, Environmental, Sanitary, Water Resources, etc.
• One year of full-time experience in sanitary, public health or environmental engineering.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate drinking water system control and SCADA cybersecurity risks.
• Conduct sanitary surveys and document deficiencies and violations.
• Coordinate with Local Health Departments on compliance with SDWA and Sanitary Code.
• Provide training and guidance on the SDWIS system and new operating systems.
