Job summary

The New York State Department of Health seeks an Assistant Engineer (Environmental) within BWSP to ensure Safe Drinking Water Act enforcement and strong cybersecurity for drinking water systems. You will supervise inspections, provide engineering expertise, and train staff across Local Health Departments and regional offices.

Required are a relevant engineering degree, FE Exam with qualifying experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology.
FE examination (NCEES) with appropriate experience.
Qualifying degrees include environmental, sanitary, civil, and water resources engineering.

Responsibilities

Evaluate water treatment plant control systems for cybersecurity risks.
Conduct sanitary surveys of water systems to document defects and violations.
Coordinate with Regional Offices and Local Health Departments on SDWA compliance.
Provide technical assistance and training on SDWIS and related systems.
