Carver County is looking for a dynamic candidate to fill one of our Engineering Technician roles at our Public Works facility in Cologne. The specific classification and pay range will be dependent upon the candidate's qualifications.
Upon completion of necessary training, the Engineering positions are eligible for partial remote work.
The typical duties and responsibilities will vary depending on which classification most closely matches a candidate's qualifications.
Available Positions
- Assistant Engineer Technician- Land Surveying/Civil Engineering AAS Degree or equivalent or High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years related and progressive work experience with a highway agency or private consulting firm; and must currently hold, or be able to obtain within 24 months of employment, MnDOT or University of Minnesota Certification in the following areas: Aggregate Production Tester, Grading and Base Inspector, Bituminous Street Inspector, Concrete Field Inspector, Erosion/Sediment Control Installer/Inspector, Erosion/Sediment Control Site Management. Valid driver’s license or evidence of mobility.
- Engineer Technician- Civil Engineering AAS Degree or equivalent or High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years related and progressive work experience with a highway agency or private consulting firm; and MnDOT or University of Minnesota Certification in the following areas: Aggregate Production Tester, Grading and Base Inspector, Bituminous Street Inspector, Concrete Field Inspector, Bituminous Plant Tester, Erosion/Sediment Control Inspector/Installer, Erosion/Sediment Control Site Management and Bridge Construction Inspector OR Bridge Safety Inspector. Valid driver’s license or evidence of mobility.
- Engineer Technician, Senior- Land Surveying/Civil Engineering AAS Degree or equivalent and four (4) years related and progressive work experience with a highway agency or private consulting firm; or High School Diploma/GED and six (6) years related and progressive work experience with a highway agency or private consulting firm; and must currently hold, or be able to obtain within 24 months of employment, MnDOT or University of Minnesota Certification in the following areas: Grading and Base I & II, Bituminous Street, Concrete Field I & II, Bituminous Plant I, Concrete Plant I, Traffic Control Supervisor, Erosion/Sediment Control Inspector/Installer, Erosion/Sediment Control Site Management, Bridge Construction Inspection II OR Bridge Safety Inspection II. Valid driver’s license or evidence of mobility.
- Engineering Specialist- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination administered by NCEES, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months; or Land Surveying/Civil Engineering AAS Degree or equivalent and six (6) years of related and progressive work experience with a highway agency or consulting firm; or High School Diploma/GED and eight (8) years of related and progressive work experience with a highway agency or consulting firm and must currently hold, or be able to obtain within 24 months of employment, MnDOT or University of Minnesota Certification in the following areas: Grading and Base Tester and Inspector, Bituminous Street Inspector, Concrete Field Tester and Inspector, ADA Construction, Signal & Lighting, Traffic Control Supervisor, Construction Site Management, Design of Construction Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, Bridge Construction Inspector and Bridge Safety Inspector Certification. Valid driver’s license or evidence of mobility.

The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, background investigation, and pre-placement physical.
