Job summary

The Cleveland Museum of Art seeks an Assistant Engineering Supervisor to supervise staff in operating, maintaining, and repairing museum HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing systems. This role partners with the Engineering Supervisor and Facilities Director to ensure cost-efficient operation.

Requirements include an Associate's degree in HVAC or equivalent, 1–2 years' experience, and a CFC Refrigeration certificate.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage Building Automation System and respond to alarms or issues.
• Analyze production schedules and estimate worker hours for jobs; manage CMMS.
• Help develop annual Facilities Department budget and manage purchasing.
• Oversee staff scheduling, payroll data, and working conditions adjustments as needed.
• Enforce safety rules and company policies; handle disciplinary actions as required.

Job description

The Assistant Engineering Supervisor will assist in supervising and coordinating activities of staff engaged in operating, maintaining, and repairing museum mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems by performing the following and similar and related duties personally and through subordinate personnel.

Requirements

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school specializing in H.V.A.C.; one to two years' experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CFC Refrigeration certificate required.

Prior experience in all aspects of H.V.A.C., building maintenance, and automated computer systems required. Previous experience with drill press, lathe, saws, electric meters, air monitors, circuit tracers, and assorted hand tools helpful.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and peripheral vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.

Responsibilities

• Assist supervising workers engaged in the maintenance of all mechanical, plumbing, heating, cooling, humidification, and similar and related systems throughout the building. Performs activities of workers supervised. Works closely and coordinates efforts with the Engineering Supervisor and Director of Facilities and shares with them the primary responsibility for the efficient and cost-effective operation and maintenance of all building systems noted above.
• Has a primary role in ensuring thorough and effective analysis and resolution of work problems. Assists in and participates in troubleshooting procedures to ensure that staff under their supervision proceed in problem resolution tasks in a well-reasoned and effective manner. Guides the continuing development of staff skill sets to ensure subordinates' ability to bring increasingly complex tasks to successful resolution. Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards.
• Has a primary responsibility for the monitoring and management of the Building Automation System. Reviews the Building Automation System daily and ensures appropriate levels of competency and consistency in its use among all members of the engineering staff. Responds to and/or directs the response to Building Automation System alarms and problem indicators. As necessary, monitors and adjusts Building Automation System remotely, from home or other location, using Museum provided equipment.
• Assists in analyzing production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Manages the Computerized Maintenance Management System for the engineering workgroup.
• Participates in the development of the yearly Facilities Department operating budget by tracking and projecting resource needs for the engineering workgroup. Controls purchasing activities of the engineering workgroup and ensures prudent and efficient use of Museum resources.
• Assists in tracking, processing, and approving staff schedules, helping to manage all related paperwork pertinent to engineering staff vacation schedules, shift schedules, and payroll. Implements changes in working conditions, use and types of equipment, and modifications of schedules to best match manpower and resources to the needs of the institution.
• Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations and institutional and departmental work rules. As necessary, manages disciplinary actions within the engineering workgroup.
• Remains on call 24 hours a day to respond to emergency situations as needed. May be required to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Oversees and performs special projects as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor and/or Director of Facilities.

Hourly Rate: $31.25 / working 40 hours week
