Job summary

The State of North Carolina - Agriculture & Consumer Services is seeking a Forestry Supervisor I (NS) for the North Carolina Forest Service in Asheville. The role directs forest management, water quality and GIS programs, while guiding cost-share projects and wildfire response under the Incident Command System framework.

You will oversee personnel, budgeting and procurement, with on-call readiness and potential travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry from SAF-accredited institution with four years of related forestry experience.
• OR Registered Forester with NC Board with four years of related post-registration forestry experience.
• Equivalent education/experience acceptable per equivalency guide.
• Must obtain Forester registration within two years if not registered.

Responsibilities

• Manage and ensure compliance of Forest Management, Water Quality, Ranger Training, GIS and cost-share programs.
• Direct and coordinate work on Remote Access Weather Stations, National Fire Danger Rating programs, and fire mitigation projects.
• Respond to wildland fires and other incidents within the District as part of ICS Operations/Planning.
• Handle administrative duties including personnel hiring, performance management, purchasing and budget oversight.
