Community Teamwork in Lowell, MA, seeks an Assistant Transportation Manager focused on Safety to lead driver and monitor training and support the Transportation Director. The role includes licensing, program development, and policy compliance, with a focus on safeguarding students and ensuring smooth transportation operations.

The position requires CDL credentials, supervisory experience, and bilingual skills.

Qualifications

  • Two years as a School Bus Driver working with children and two years supervisory experience.
  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Pass CORI/SORI/DCF/Fingerprinting background checks.
  • Pass Pre-Employment Drug Test.
  • Valid CDL A or B with P and S endorsements.
  • Two years supervising pupil transportation.
  • Three years of a clear MVR (no violations/accidents).
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate students and collaborate with others on program issues and team teaching.
  • Valid Massachusetts School Bus Drivers Certificate.
  • Valid School Bus Driver Instructor Certificate.
  • Current or ability to obtain Notary Public within 3 months of hire.
  • Certified Passenger Safety Technician.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, and ease learning new software and tracking systems.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Evidence of recent Mantoux test, physical exam, and MMR vaccine.

Responsibilities

  • Train Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors on policies, procedures, and bus evacuation training.
  • Provide instructions to employees/new hires to obtain and maintain CDL licensure.
  • Develop and maintain Driver/Monitor training programs and records.
  • Schedule First Aid/CPR classes and Bus Evacuation Training.
  • Maintain the PQ Registry of Drivers/Monitors.
  • Conduct observations of Drivers/Monitors.
  • Maintain Accident and Drug & Alcohol Logs.
  • Keep Drivers current on FMCSA rules.
  • Follow transportation policies and procedures as outlined.
  • Collaborate with programs to support child drop-off and pick-up.
  • Participate as a member of the leadership team and attend required agency meetings.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are current and compliant.
  • Participate in and recommend hiring Bus Drivers and Monitors; keep staff updated with rules and procedures.

Assistant Transportation Manager

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Transportation, focusing on Safety, is responsible for developing and training current and future Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors while supporting the Director of Transportation.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Train Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors on policies, procedures, and bus evacuation training, including licensing for drivers.
  2. Provide instructions to employees/new hires to obtain and maintain CDL licensure.
  3. Develop and maintain Driver/Monitor training programs and records.
  4. Schedule First Aid/CPR classes and Bus Evacuation Training.
  5. Maintain the PQ Registry of Drivers/Monitors.
  6. Conduct observations of Drivers/Monitors.

  13. Participate in and recommend hiring Bus Drivers and Monitors; keep staff updated with all rules, regulations, and procedures relating to the Transportation Department.
