Job summary

Suffolk University in Boston seeks a RAM Supporter to lead peer mentoring and training for new students and families. You will develop RAM Supporter programs, recruit and train volunteers, and provide personalized guidance during the first year.

This full-time role reports to Orientation, New Student and Family Programs Director, with collaboration across Student Affairs. Occasional evenings and weekend availability may be required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree requirement as stated.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience with new student programs or orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and assess programs.
  • Strong ethics and ability to work with a diverse student body.

Responsibilities

  • RAM Supporter Team recruitment, selection, and leadership development.
  • Provide peer mentoring, personal support, and success strategy education to at-risk students.
  • Assist in planning undergraduate student and family orientation initiatives.
  • Develop and execute family programming and communication.
  • Oversee orientation & New Student Programs involvement in fall and spring showcases.
  • Serve on Student Affairs committees to support campus activities.

Position Type: Full time

Supports all new student and family initiatives which helpensure a successful transition, engagement and retention with theSuffolk community. Specific responsibilities include RAM Supporterprogram development and facilitation for new students. Positionreports to Orientation, New Student and Family Programs Directorand has a dotted line to Student Affairs Office.

Primary/Principal Responsibilities:

Responsible for RAM Supporter Team and RAM Supporterrecruitment, selection, and training/leadership developmentprograms. Provide peer mentoring, personal support, and successstrategy education to at-risk student populations during theirinitial year at Suffolk.

Serve new students of concern in conjunction through individualmeetings with collaboration with Student Affairs. Serve on the CARETEAM, attending bi-weekly meetings.

Assist in all aspects of the planning and implementation of theinstitution’s undergraduate student and family orientationinitiatives by collaborating with campus partners.

Develop and execute family programming and communication

Develop new student initiatives which target the co-curricularand academic transition needs of mid-year new students.

Assist with Suffolk’s extended orientation program, Ram Academyin conjunction with campus partners. Oversee all Orientation &New Student Programs involvement in fall and spring new studentshowcase events.

Serve on various Student Affairs committees to support campusactivities and professional development. Assist in the planning andimplementation of Family Weekend in collaboration with campuspartners.

Requirements/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, HigherEducation Administration or related field is required.

  • 1-2 years of previous professional experience with new studentprograms, new student orientation, academic advising, studentaffairs or related fields.

  • Demonstrated experience in program development, implementation,and assessment.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong professional and ethical standards on which to serve as arole model to a diverse student constituency. Ability to buildworking relationships with students, faculty and staff.

  • Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast pacedenvironment, including ability to work nights and weekends asnecessary.

  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, management, and platformskills; an ability to oversee a wide variety of activities; abilityto work independently.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

The salary range for this role is $60,000–$70,000.
