Purpose | Reporting to the Director of Financial Services, this position performs financial reporting and analysis for major College funds (Education & General, Workforce Development) and supports financial accounting for the Piedmont Virginia Community College Educational Foundation, a 501 © (3) foundation with more than $30 million in assets. The position works within the Business Office and with multiple systems to extract data and provide reports and analysis for monitoring and decision-making. This includes validating data from the Peoplesoft Accounting Financial module of AIS/General ledger, Financial Edge within the Foundation’s accounting system, working with Human Resources and the Cardinal system for payroll data, and with the Student Information System (SIS). The Assistant Director of Financial Services develops processes and procedures to improve workflows and customer service, while ensuring that processes maintain compliance with the State Comptroller’s directives, Virginia’s Agency Risk Management and Internal Controls Standards (ARMICS) and the Commonwealth Accounting Policy and Procedures (CAPP) manual.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Minimum three years’ directly relevant experience in a financial management role. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. Direct experience working with automated accounting system process/general ledger transactions. Ability to analyze and reconcile financial data and prepare reports and statements. Ability to understand and consistently review and apply a complex financial coding structure. Strong organizational and decision‑making skills, as evidenced in prior financial management roles. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and the public both verbally and in writing. Experience working in a fast‑paced environment managing multiple priorities. A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, and a proven track record of implementing systems improvements to more effectively and efficiently deliver outcomes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheet software Considerable knowledge and experience providing management and oversight of financial processes and procedures related to multiple functional areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, business partners, and community stakeholders with varying levels of accounting and financial management knowledge to support institutional effectiveness and strategic priorities.
Additional education or certifications, preferably in business or accounting. Knowledge of Peoplesoft Accounting Information System (AIS) software. Knowledge of Peoplesoft Student Information System (SIS). Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge or other foundation accounting system. Knowledge of eVA.
