As the Assistant Director of Business Services for FFM, you will provide steady, thoughtful leadership across core HR, administrative, financial, and operational functions. You’ll oversee essential HR operations, including FMLA and extended leave management, progressive discipline management, personnel investigations, recruitment strategies, HR training, employee evaluations, and improvements to department-wide HR practices. Your expertise will help drive a people-focused and collaborative environment that reflects FFM’s values.
This role is instrumental in modernizing administrative processes by standardizing technology platforms, enhancing workflows, improving communication systems, and supporting emergency management readiness. You’ll also oversee major service areas such as the Print Shop, Records Center, Mail Room, and Business Services’ accounts payable functions.
Financial duties include leading budget forecasting, monitoring divisional spending, strengthening internal controls, and collaborating with Finance & Budget. The position actively supports employee development, apprenticeship programs, educational partnerships, and manager training. You will contribute to strategic departmental efforts, including the Strategic Plan, APWA, SOP review, and KPI development.
The ideal candidate will possess substantial municipal HR expertise, strong financial and operational acumen, clear communication skills, integrity, and a collaborative leadership style.
The base schedule is 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm; Exempt employees may be required at times to work hours outside of their typical schedule. This position is considered essential personnel and may be required to report to work during emergency events. This position is eligible to telework up to two days per week after a one-year probationary period. Telework schedule may change based on need of the department.
Hiring Salary Range: $104,500.50 to $156,223.77 Annually
Full-time positions with Prince William County Government qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
