Job summary

Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY is seeking an Assistant Director of Grounds to support the Director with the daily management of the Grounds Department and the Hofstra Arboretum.

You will supervise maintenance, schedule projects, monitor budgets, ensure safety, and coordinate with Hofstra Athletics, university events, and outside vendors. The role requires 24/7 availability for weather emergencies.

A strong track record in union workforce leadership and horticultural operations is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five to seven years of progressive union workforce management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; scheduling/work-order software a plus.
• Thorough knowledge of grounds installation, operations, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and supervise grounds maintenance, events, and athletic activities.
• Monitor hours, productivity, and quality of work.
• Ensure safety compliance and manage inventory of tools and supplies.
• Oversee budgets and supervise contractors and vendors.
