Job summary

University of Rochester is seeking a full-time groundskeeper to maintain lawns, beds, trees and shrubs across the campus. You will plant, water, prune, fertilize and manage athletic fields while following landscape plans and safety standards.

A NYS Class II license and ability to perform heavy labor in varied weather are required. The role involves operating hand and power tools and motorized equipment, keeping detailed daily records and ensuring areas are clean and safe for students and staff.

Qualifications

• 2 years of post High School training with concentration in Horticulture or related field.
• Requires a valid New York State Class II motor vehicle operators license and physical ability and stamina suited to heavy and sustained manual labor and exposure to local weather conditions.
• May be required to possess certifications and licenses as specified by law.

Responsibilities

• Plant, transplant, remove, cultivate, aerate and water grass, flower beds, trees and shrubs according to plans.
• Spray, prune, cut and fertilize plant life as directed.
• Assist in programs identifying and controlling diseases and insects.
• Grade areas for seeding and sodding; repair walks, roadways and parking areas.
• Maintain athletic fields and facilities, inside and outside; mark fields and set up bleachers, goal posts, etc.
• Set snow fences, plow snow, shovel and salt sidewalks and parking areas.
• Clean up work areas and remove debris; maintain cleanliness of tools and equipment.
• Keep records and prepare reports of daily work.
• Follow safety regulations and departmental policies.
