Job summary

University of Notre Dame is seeking an Assistant Director for Study Abroad to lead ND Global’s study abroad programs. You will guide students through recruitment, advising, applications, and cohort selection, while shaping pre-departure readiness and re-entry programming.

You will collaborate with campus departments and international partners to advance academic goals, intercultural understanding, and institutional internationalization initiatives.

OVERVIEW The Assistant Director for Study Abroad at the University of Notre Dame plays a student-facing leadership role within ND Global, supporting the implementation, growth, and operations of assigned study abroad programs. This position guides students through recruitment, advising, application review, preparation, and re-entry while collaborating with campus departments and international partners. The role also contributes to strategic planning, program assessment, and institutional internationalization initiatives.

Key responsibilities
  • Guide students through the full study abroad lifecycle, including recruitment, advising, application evaluation, and cohort selection.
  • Design and deliver pre-departure preparation programs focused on academic, cultural, and experiential readiness.
  • Lead re-entry and reintegration programming for returning students.
  • Provide guidance on study abroad scholarships and financial aid opportunities.
  • Ensure quality, compliance, and strategic alignment across assigned international programs.
  • Collaborate with on-site partners and global staff to support program operations.
  • Analyze program data and student feedback to support program improvement and sustainability.
  • Serve as an operational liaison with academic, professional, and administrative offices across campus.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to assess program quality, institutional goals, and risk management.
  • Act as a liaison between the main campus and ND Global Gateways and Centers.
  • Support relationship-building and cross-cultural collaboration through international and regional expertise.
  • Partner with ND Global leadership on international initiatives and development of new global programming.
  • Lead unit-wide projects and mentor staff within the study abroad team.
Requirements

  • Knowledge of the scholarship and practice of study abroad.
