Job summary

Malcolm X College is seeking an Assistant Director of Safety and Security to provide a safe atmosphere for students, faculty, staff and visitors. The role requires law enforcement experience and supervisory background within higher education.

The position involves assisting in investigations, directing security operations, staffing planning, staff training, and representing the college in district settings. Chicago residency is required for full-time employment.

Qualifications

• BA degree in related field plus 3–4 years law enforcement with 2 years supervisory experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively, with tact, persuasiveness and diplomacy.
• Working knowledge of personal computers and common software.
• Strong decision making and professional conduct.
• Physical ability to perform assigned duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist in investigating complaints and solving crimes; advise on procedures to minimize losses.
• Serve as second in command in absence of the Director of Security.
• Oversee security operations at satellite locations when needed.
• Review incident reports and coordinate follow-up actions.
• Ensure safety and security of all persons and enforce policies.
• Participate in recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation and discipline.
• Plan staffing and maintain adequate human resources for safety needs.
• Direct and supervise security staff; provide feedback and improvements.
• Conduct staff meetings and training to improve security operations.
• Appear in court or government offices as needed as a witness.
• Represent the college at district-wide meetings.
• Verify time and attendance records for security staff.
• Adhere to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
