  • Develop, maintain, and reconcile departmental financial records; manage procurement and monitor budget performance.
  • Oversee purchasing, stocking, and maintenance of custodial supplies; maintain inventory control systems and train staff.
  • Develop and implement training programs for housekeeping staff; provide leadership coaching and performance management.
  • Administer safety and health programs; maintain SDS systems; conduct audits and implement corrective actions to mitigate risk.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to the entire UNCG campus. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulatory compliance, project management, and renovations. These duties are conducted for a campus consisting of more than 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on over 275 acres.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Building and Environmental Services provides leadership and coordination of housekeeping and custodial services across campus facilities, most often within Housing and Residence Life or Facilities Operations.
This position supervises subordinate housekeeping supervisors, delivery personnel, set-up crews, floor maintenance assistants, and housekeeping staff to ensure clean, safe, and well-maintained living and learning environments.
Managers in this band are responsible for planning, scheduling, and inspecting housekeeping operations; managing equipment and supplies; ensuring compliance with safety and health standards; and aligning housekeeping activities with the University’s operational goals. The role also requires leadership in employee development, performance management, and customer service, with accountability for both daily operations and long-range planning of custodial programs.
