Job description

Assistant Credit Manager (Commercial B2B)

Location: Los Angeles, CA 90045 (Near LAX)

Work Arrangement: On-Site Monday-Thursday | Remote Friday

Base Compensation: $68,000 – $113,000 / year (Flexible for top-tier candidates) + Discretionary Performance Bonus

A premier North American building materials and industrial products manufacturer is seeking a sharp, highly organized, and ambitious Assistant Credit Manager to join its corporate headquarters near LAX.

This is a newly created position for the company designed for an independent, high-performing individual contributor who can evaluate commercial credit risk, analyze large receivables portfolios, manage complex collections, and act as the primary backup to the Credit Manager. The ideal candidate thrives with minimal direction, exhibits steady long-term employment tenure, and possesses expert-level Excel capabilities for raw data manipulation.

Core Responsibilities
  • Credit Risk Assessment: Evaluate customer financial statements, payment histories, trade references, and D&B reports to set/adjust appropriate credit limits and terms.
  • Portfolio & Collections Management: Monitor aging reports, resolve complex payment disputes, negotiate structured payment plans for high-risk accounts, and support cash applications in legacy ERP/AS400 systems.
  • Advanced Reporting: Transform raw, unformatted aging and credit data into clean Excel spreadsheets; perform VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas, and custom reporting for management and customers.
  • Retailer & Vendor Portals: Maintain and operate major national retailer portals and customer payment platforms.
  • Departmental Leadership: Serve as backup to the Credit Manager, providing technical guidance, coaching, and work delegation to AR specialists and analysts.
  • Audit & Compliance: Support annual external financial audits by preparing account reconciliations, bad debt reserve analyses, and detailed supporting schedules.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: 8+ years of dedicated commercial (B2B) credit, accounts receivable, or trade collections experience.
  • Industry Background: Direct experience in manufacturing, building products, construction materials, wholesale distribution, or industrial supply is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, raw data manipulation). Hands-on experience with legacy ERP systems (AS400/IBM i series) is a major plus.
  • Work Ethic: Highly agile, self-directed, and detail-oriented with a proven ability to manage complex projects without hands-on oversight.
