The North Carolina Forest Service is a team of professionals who provide forest protection, emergency response, resource management, and environmental education to residents and landowners across North Carolina. The Assistant County Ranger works with the County Ranger to provide these services and may assist with forestry assistance requests, urban tree programs, educational outreach, wildfire planning, and emergency response.
Position requires:
Assist with servicing landowner requests for forestry assistance.
Assist with programs to promote the importance of trees and tree care in urban settings.
Provide and promote forestry education through interaction with partners, schools, civic groups, and organizations such as Tree Farm, National Wild Turkey Federation, FFA, and 4-H.
Promote natural resource protection through wildfire suppression planning.
Respond during emergencies like wildfires and natural disasters.
Work hours are typically 8-5, Monday through Friday, with extended hours during fire danger periods, including evenings, holidays, and weekends. Overnight travel is required. Residency requirements are discussed during the interview.
Duty station: 4578 NC Hwy 242 North, Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
Successful completion of Ranger Training is required.
Official uniform and a state vehicle are provided.
Associate's degree in forest management or related field, or high school/GED with two years of forestry experience, or an equivalent combination.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license within 90 days of hire.
