Georgia Department of Transportation, Office of Legal Services, is seeking an Assistant Counsel (pay grade R) in Atlanta, GA. The role provides legal support across DOT divisions, drafts and negotiates a wide range of agreements, and conducts comprehensive legal research on transportation-related matters.

Qualified candidates will hold a Juris Doctorate and a Georgia law license with substantial experience in contract negotiation and drafting, regulatory compliance, and open records acts.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in Georgia
• Six years of legal experience including contract negotiation and drafting
• Advanced knowledge in contract negotiation/drafting, construction law, environmental law, property law, condemnation law, procurement law, employment law, Georgia Open Records Act, or regulation interpretation and compliance

Responsibilities

• Provides legal support to all Divisions and Offices within the Department of Transportation
• Handles a variety of complex legal projects
• Drafts, negotiates and reviews contracts, professional service agreements, consultant agreements, permits, intergovernmental agreements, IT agreements, and property transactions
• Performs legal research and provides advisory opinions on federal and state transportation issues
• Provides analysis on contract matters, procurement, regulatory issues, EEO/human resources, construction, contract claims, property issues, litigation
• Coordinates with the Department of Law and outside counsel for case preparation, mediations, trials, and hearings
• Reviews proposed legislation and drafts legislation as necessary
