Job summary

ABC Appliance, parent of ABC Warehouse, Hawthorne Appliance and Mickey Shorr, is seeking an Assistant Controller at our corporate headquarters in Pontiac, Michigan. The role leads the Accounting department, guiding GAAP reporting, tax work papers, and audits for multiple stores.

You will mentor up to 20 accounting staff, manage month-end close, prepare financial statements, and partner with CAO and store teams to drive accuracy and controls across 60+ multistate locations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in a leadership accounting role.
• Retail experience a plus.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP.
• Expert in developing and maintaining accounting procedures and controls.
• Wear many hats and prioritize workflow.
• Strong leadership with attention to detail and analytical ability.
• Experience with ERP Systems, data mining, modeling, and analysis.
• Strong MS and Access Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting operations: financial reporting/analysis, AR/AP, fixed assets.
• Oversee tax work papers, audits, and compliance.
• Mentor and evaluate up to 20 staff.
• Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements and variances.
• Coordinate with CAO and store teams; oversee audits.
