Job summary

Origin Staffing is partnering with a private Greater Boston company for an Assistant Controller role within its Accounting & Finance organization. This hands-on leadership position offers close involvement with the general ledger and month-end close, and a clear path toward becoming the Controller.

You will work closely with the Controller and CFO, overseeing close processes, financial reporting, audit support, reconciliations, and process improvements across a project-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
• Approximately 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong hands-on experience owning or leading month-end close and general ledger accounting.
• CPA is preferred, but not required; solid GAAP knowledge and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, rollforwards, schedules, and variance analysis.
• Own the integrity of the general ledger and ensure accurate, timely activity.
• Review AP/AR, billing, payroll-related accounting, and other operating accounts.
• Prepare and review financial reporting schedules; support management reporting.
• Coordinate audit requests with external auditors; provide documentation as needed.
• Review accounting staff work; coordinate workflows, priorities, and close deadlines.
• Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Finance, Operations, and project teams to resolve issues.
• Strengthen internal controls, reconciliations, procedures, and close documentation.
• Build and improve Excel-based reporting, schedules, reconciliations, and tools.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve scalability of accounting functions.
• Gain exposure to payroll, job-related accounting, WIP, and other areas as experience develops.
• Collaborate with Controller on special projects and broader accounting initiatives.
